Lowertown Classics – A hidden gem in St. Paul.

With the opportunities that come with moving to a new city, a unique concert series was on my bucket list for a while. In January of 2014, I turned to my neighbors at the Lowertown Lofts Arist Cooperative in Saint Paul with an unusual request: what if, in the middle of our living spaces, we turned the atrium into a concert venue that opens once a month and features local artists, as well as international performers during their Twin-Cities stay? Said and done. Over the course of a year, musicians from  near and far have performed here: Emma Rush, Rene Izquierdo and Maja Radovanlija, Clea Galhano, Maria Jette, Sahar Hassan, Pat O´Keefe, Catherine Ramirez, Bethany Gonella, Wendy Tangen-Foster, Greg Byers, Oleg Levine, Mark Levine, Choro Borealis, Ladyslipper Ensemble, Duo OboeBass!, Michelle Kinney, Scotty Hoorey, Ted Goudbout, Eric Solberg, Tulio Rondón, Randy Sabien, Gary Raynor and many more.

None of this could be done without the help of my guitar students at McNallySmith College of Music. Thank you, guys!
Please join me in celebrating one year of Lowertown Classics with the last two concerts of this season on April 3rd (“Guitar Total” with Maja Radovanlija and Guitar Duo Mediterranean Breeze) and May 1st (Artaria String Quartet, Nerea Beraondo, Eva Beneke). These concerts also feature visual artists from the building who introduce the audience to their paintings, sculptures or tapestry. With the involvement of local businesses that cater the evening, the series has truly become a community event that enriches the lives of those living and working in Lowertown, St. Paul and builds new audiences for classical music in the Twin Cities. Click here to listen to “Art hounds”, a feature on MPR that was aired in the first year of the series.
